One of the fundamental findings of this book is that the emergence of various technological innovations and information systems developed by electoral management bodies does not always go hand in hand with greater openness in election data. The emergence of voter data breaches that run counter to personal data protection, limited access to data on election participants, the withholding of candidates’ biographical information on the grounds of personal data protection, and the closure of election results generated by vote tabulation information systems all serve as important indications of the erosion of election data openness in Indonesia.
Nevertheless, this book ultimately offers concrete and practical technical solutions to restore openness in election data in Indonesia, one of which is through a co-creation mechanism between electoral management bodies and civil society. It is our hope that this book can serve as a means of improving the management of election data and information in Indonesia in the future, helping to ensure electoral processes and outcomes that are transparent, accountable, and characterized by integrity.
Happy reading.
