In this study, Fadli Ramadhanil and his colleagues present several approaches that were tested by various civil society groups during the 2014 General Election. They argue that innovations in election observation through the use of information technology can help address many of the challenges facing election monitoring in the future. For this reason, I believe that this study on the design of public participation is an important reference, particularly for lawmakers who will be responsible for developing a “new” electoral framework in preparation for the simultaneous elections in 2019.
This study, conducted by the Perludem research team alongside the study The Role of Civil Society Organizations in Election Observation, 1999–2014, serves as an important research reference for addressing the remaining challenges related to public participation in election observation.
