The Election Association for Democracy (Perludem) supports the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) proposal that political parties be required to report on state-funded political education activities.

Perludem believes that this reporting system must be digital, transparent and widely accessible to the public. This is important so that the public can be informed about the use of political assistance funds (banpol) in an open and accountable manner.

According to Perludem, this reporting obligation is also part of efforts to strengthen internal party democratisation, particularly amidst discussions regarding increased state financial assistance to political parties. With an open system, the public is expected to be able to help monitor the use of these funds.

Previously, the KPK proposed a reporting obligation for political education activities funded by the state budget as part of improving the governance of political parties. This proposal emerged after the KPK identified a number of issues, such as the absence of a clear financial reporting system, the lack of a roadmap for political education, and weak oversight within existing regulations.

The KPK also recommended that these provisions be included in the revision of the Political Parties Act, including reporting obligations covering details of activities, participants, objectives, and programme outcomes.
